Character Background

• History: Wiki
• Core Relationships:

Mytho: is the driving force for Ahiru’s motivations. It was because she saw the sad prince dancing alone that motivated her to become Princess Tutu and a girl and she retains that motivation all throughout. She wants to help Mytho recover his heart and get to be happy and that is a feeling she shares with everyone she meets. Her compassion for his sacrifice and her desire that every person should get to express and hold onto their feelings is why Ahiru is the way she is.

Fakir: is Ahiru’s confidant. Equally motivated into saving Mytho, they both got off on the wrong foot and for a long time, Ahiru feared and distrusted him. But eventually, she got to see his insecurity and sorrow and felt bad for all that he was shouldering alone. Finally, she gave him her trust by showing him her true form as a duck and now they are close friends and allies. Ahiru puts a lot of weight in Fakir’s opinion and abilities and he is one of the few people she would share her own insecurities with.

Rue/Kraehe: is Ahiru’s friend now turned enemy, though Ahiru would never consider her that. Despite Kraehe’s attempts to steal Mytho and interfere with Ahiru saving his heart, Ahiru is steadfast in believing that Rue is not an evil person and will come back to herself some day. She knows her friend is in pain, even if she doesn’t understand the reasons for it and will always extend a helping hand whenever Rue needs one.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:

Saving Mytho/Confession: All through the series, Ahiru struggles with her self-image. After all, she is only a duck and she lacks skill, coordination, intelligence, etc and she’s incredibly emotionally self-aware of that, compared to her usual situational naivety. However, she manages to recognize that her feelings are her own, regardless of which shape she inhabits. Ahiru has a lot of courage and has no problem with accountability even when she may struggle. She always owns up to her mistakes, her missteps and picks herself up every single time with determination. Even when her fear is she might disappear from Mytho’s life, she tries to reach an accord with Kraehe not to hurt him, comes up with her own unique way to solve a problem without harming or hurting others in the process and does her best to protect Mytho’s heart.

Saying Goodbye to Edel: Ahiru treats every person equally. To her, everyone is deserving of love, compassion and kindness. She never has cause to treat anyone differently, doing her best to hold everyone to the same standard. Even when she fought with Fakir due to his cold manner, once she caught a glimpse of his suffering underneath, she immediately did everything in her power to make sure he was protected and understood, seeing him as an ally even when Fakir wasn’t ready to accept and even trusting him with her secret.

But this is seen best with Edel. Edel is just a puppet. She had no feelings of her own and helped Ahiru because the storyteller Drosselmeyer ordered her to. And yet Ahiru is the best person to give Edel a hug, to share her warmth with her and told her very frankly how valued she was. How much Edel helped her, how much she mattered to Ahiru even as they said goodbye. And this was rewarded with Edel’s sacrifice and help throughout the series as Edel never forgot that kindness. And she is not the only one. Every person who interacts with Ahiru always knows how compassionate she is to others as she always takes the time to make every person feel like they matter.

(2+) Negative Experiences:

Returning Mytho’s Feeling of Fear: As Princess Tutu, Ahiru is determined to return all of Mytho’s feelings to him so that he can understand what it means to live and love and laugh. However, when she returns the feeling of fear and Mytho starts to fear her, Ahiru is wracked with doubt and uncertainty. Ahiru oftens says she is “just a duck” and thus, when her perception is countered, she feels it very strongly, especially when it amounts to hurting the people she loves.

Ahiru always looks for the best path that involves no parties hurt and any time it fails, she falters and struggles with finding a solution. She finds it hard to handle negativity and always tends to take it incredibly personally without being able to find the best rational response. She will seek to sacrifice herself and her feelings if it meant that no one else but her would be hurt.

Drowning: When Mytho chose Rue’s love over Ahiru’s, Ahiru did not mind. After all, her love is the selfless kind and she wanted them both to be happy. However, she was unable to pass him the last heart shard and she slowly became crushed by her own doubts, without realising she was being manipulated by Drosselmeyer to sink into despair.

Ahiru has a hard time with her own self-worth. This is a theme that comes up again and again throughout the series. As she is just a duck, she puts a low value in all her actions and abilities. This is magnified when she realises she has to give up the last heart shard that provides her the power to become a girl and Princess Tutu. She questions her own motives, her own selfishness and continues to sink deeper and deeper into her own despair as she’s unable to untangle her motivations from her desires. Failure is a constant fear at the back of her mind and one she is unable to fully fight on her own without help from people who believe in her — regardless of who she is.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers:

Ahiru has no powers as a duck or a girl. As Princess Tutu, she has the power to reach into people’s hearts and cure their unnatural and turbulent feelings they might be subjected to. She can also conjure flower fields and vines along with certain objects. All her power works through ballet dances, in which she is highly proficient in. Her magic level is high though she has no real power to attack or harm others.

• Blood Type: Warmblood
• Omen: A swan
• Blessed Day: January 20th
• Patron Pthumerian: Madam Generousity
• Blood Power Manifestation:

As a warmblood, it would enhance Ahiru’s characteristic ability to be overlooked and unnoticeable. As Princess Tutu, she would have slightly enhanced sleep healing
